Upcoming Activities

Here are some events to put on your calendars:

1) We are going to have a get together for coffee. It will be Thursday, October 16th at 10 a.m. at The Grove Coffee Shop on Getwell Road.

2) There will be a Trunk or Treat for the kids on Friday, October 31st at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Cornerstone Church. Decorate the trunks of your vehicles (nothing scary, please) and dress your kids in their costumes. Bring your lunch and we will have a picnic afterwards. Also, bring candy or other treats for the kids to come by and get.

In the past, we have had loads of fun seeing all the different decorations and the kids have a great time getting the treats.

3) On Monday, November 10th we will go to the Memphis Botanical Gardens, if it isn't too cold. We can meet at the church at 9 a.m. and caravan. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 3-12, and FREE for children 3 and under.

Please come and join us at one or more of these events.

October MOPS Meeting is coming up!

Don't forget our meeting October 10th at 9:15. See you there!

Redemption Revival 2009

Save the Date! Priscilla Shirer will be in Memphis on March 27th and 28th. Friday night starts at 7 and Saturday morning is from 9 to 1. It is being sponsored by area churches. This revival is a vision of Ellen Olford, Michelle's women's leader at Central Church. I think that it will be awesome and hope you make plans to attend. It is FREE! Start looking for a sitter or have your husband ready for you to come. Our church is on board with this.

I will let you know when we get more details.

Playdate and Lisa Whelps chel Pictures

We had a great time at the playdate today. The weather and temperature was great. Marissa Wittman and her two girls, Stacy (?) and her son and daughter, Tracy Gallagher and her two sons and Michelle Jinnette and her son were there. The kids had fun playing on the slide, fort and swings while the moms talked. It was really nice. Below are pictures taken at the Lisa Whelchel event on Tuesday, September 16th. Thought you might enjoy seeing them.

Walking in the Park

While the weather is cooperating and the temperatures are perfect, I am trying to take advantage of it by walking in Central Park after dropping my two older children off at school. There are quite a few trails to choose from and most are under the tall shade trees. The park is quiet and usually there are a few other walkers out too. I usually have Andrew with me riding in his stroller so feel free to bring your littles ones along too. If anyone is interested in joining me, please let me know.

Playdate

Don't forget the MOPS playdate on Friday, September 26th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. It will be at Goodman Oaks Church of Christ on their playground in the very back. Make sure to bring a picnic lunch for you and your little one(s). That way when you get them home they can go straight to their naps because they would have already eaten.

Men's Sale at Dillard's

Dillard Southaven is having a huge Men's sale. The summer stuff is 75% off and then an additional 30% off of that price. Marissa Wittman got her husband Thomas several $60 items for $6-8. Who doesn't love a great bargain!!

Thanks Marissa for the tip!!!

The item below is courtesy of Debbie Cavette:
Just a little secret I recently found out. The Dillards clearance store in Jonesboro has closed and now they are taking care of clearancing out all of their own merchandise. Last season a couple of weeks after this sale in progress right now, They marked all clearance items to 1.99. I have an inside source that is supposed to call me when this happens and I will pass it on to you all. I got Bobby a whole new wardrobe for this winter and everything was 1.99 including some polo merchandise.

Thanks Debbie for this information!!!!

Lisa Whelchel Event and MOPS Playdate

For those who were not able to attend either of the Lisa Whelchel events, you missed a great speaker and a good time. She is really down to earth and funny. Lisa talked about the struggles she and her husband has had raising their three and how they survived to this point (Tucker is in college, Haven is in the 12th grade and Clancey is in the 11th grade.) and how to take time to take care of yourself, even if it is just a few minutes between laundry loads. If you ever get the chance to do one of her bible studies or hear her speak, I would recommend you do so. You will come out of it greatly blessed.

We will have a MOPS Playdate and Picnic on Friday, September 26th from 10 - 12 p.m. It will be at the playground at the Goodman Oaks Church of Christ. Heading East, it is the big church on the left side of Goodman Road before you get to Tchulahoma. The playground is in the back and can't be seen from the road. Bring lunch for you and your kids!! For those moms whose kids will be in school or MDO, please come anyways. We Moms can visit while the kids play. Also, the Boy Scouts will be setting up for their big carport sale so we might get to shop too!!!! How awesome is that!!

Sonic's Happy Hour

Don't forget: from 2 - 4 p.m., Sonic has most of their drinks for half off. Not a bad deal if you are out running errands and your kids are thirsty. We like to stop by there sometimes after school to grab a cheap drink.

If you have any other great ideas about places to shop or eat that offer deals for kids and/or families, please let us know. We want to pass them on so everyone can take advantage.

Kids Eat Cheap Idea

For those interested, on Wednesdays Buffalo Wild Wings has kids' meals for $.99 for ages 12 and under. The best thing is if you have a child who is a big eater, you can order more than one kid's meal per child at the $.99 price.

Also, Back Yard Burger and Fazoli's has kids' meals for $.99 on Tuesdays. At Back Yard Burger, you have to go inside and order. You can't take advantage of the kid's meal deal through drive-thru. I don't know about Fazoli's policy.

If anyone else know of other places and restaurants where kids eat free or at a discounted price, please let the MOPS Steering Team Members know so we can post it on the blog.

Welcome to Cornerstone MOPS!!

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. We all know that sometimes, when our children are young, we feel like no one else knows what we are going through as we raise our children. MOPS is here to let you know that "YOU ARE NOT ALONE!" We will be there for you and give you love and support as you travel along on this journey.

Cornerstone MOPS meets at Cornerstone Church, located at 5998 Elmore Road in Southaven, MS. Our meetings are held on the second Friday of each month, starting September 12, from 9:15 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Membership with the MOPS organization is $35. The $5 monthly fee covers childcare, decorations, crafts and other costs. Scholarships are available for those in need. Childcare is available through our MOPPETS program. Registration is August 22 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. - come and go.

Our meetings each month consists of breakfast, a time of getting to know each other, a short speaker and a craft. The MOPS theme this year is "Adventures in Mothering" based on Ephesians 3:18: "... how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ."

We hope you will come and join us.
